WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO EARN THESE AWARDS

BRONZE AWARD:  Earned by Junior Girl Scouts, 4th and 5th grade
1. Complete a Journey book, including a service project.
2. Spend a minimum of 20 hours coming up with ideas for projects, choosing a project, planning it, doing it and spreading the word about it. Can be done as a troop, large group or small group.
3. When completed, program book (available at www.girilscoutsrv.org) must be sent to Service Unit Manager for approval and then SUM will send it to council.

S ILVER AWARD: Earned by Cadette Girl Scouts, 6th, 7th & 8th grade
1. Complete a Journey book, including a service project.
2. Spend a minimum of 50 hours coming up with ideas for projects, choosing a project, planning it, doing it and spreading the word about it. Done as a small group of no more than 4 girls.
3. Must be pre-approved before project begins by Girl Scouts River Valleys. See Silver Award packet at www.girlscoutsrv.org

Gold Award: Earned by Senior Girl Scouts and Ambassadors, 9th grade and up.
1. Complete 2 Journeys or earn your Silver Award and complete 1 Journey.
2. Spend a minimum of 80 hours coming up with the project, planning it, doing it and spreading the word about it. This project is done as an individual and is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. It also must have an impact beyond the Girl Scouting community.
3.  Prior to beginning work on your project, you must meet with the Gold Award Committee of Girl Scouts River Valleys for their approval. See Golf Award packet at www.girlscoutsrv.org

OUR AWARD WINNERS FOR 2013-2014

BRONZE AWARD

Troop 13887 addressed the needs of local under privileged children to help them celebrate this past holiday season. The troop focused primarily on St. Joseph’s Home for Children. They made up various holiday treat bags which they distributed and planned and executed an arts and craft drive and delivered the donations to the children’s at St. Joseph’s.

Bronze award winners are: Elle Bernaski, Julia Dumcum, Sydney Egenes, Olivia Hesse, Daniella Krause, Abby Roper, Lauren Taylor, Katherine Wise and Lauren Wosje.

Troop 14335 planned, prepared an presented Northern Skies’  2014 Brownie Blast for its Bronze Award. Their theme was “Under the Sea”. The Brownies made Sea Slime, learned about many different sea creatures, got Mermaid Hair, played a game called Sharks and Minnows and had fish themed snacks – all at stations run by the girls in Troop 14335.

Bronze Award winners are: Maddie Behrens, Anna Betker, Amanda Christensen, Alexis Darkow, Emma Jensen, Sophie Macy, Jennifer Mettler, Keonna Sheppard and Audrey Speed.

Troop 14336 completed a toy drive for Miracles of Mitch for its Bronze Award. The girls had three toy drives and collected $6000 work of toys for the foundation, which helps families of children with cancer. The girls also made special “Mitch” bracelets which were distributed through the foundation. Finally, they volunteered as greeters for families of children who received family retreat weekends at the Mall of America Radisson through the foundation.

Bronze Award winners are: Julia Baldwin, Rachel Hoppe, Becky Ramsey, Allie Perkins and Jennifer Turgeon.

SILVER AWARD

Eighth Grade Cadette’s Lauren Dale and Andrea Peters completed their Silver Award in October 2013. The girls worked with Bountiful Basket Food Shelf in Chaska, MN to collect, sort, repair and distribute more than 100 Halloween costumes to children in need.
